Arthur Miller's play The Crucible - Thursday 23 October at 8.00pm in the Overcroft
This disturbing play based upon true events in the US Colonies in the 
late 17th C mirrors similar events that occurred here in East Anglia in the 1640s. It shows how phobias of any kind against 'witches', communists, moslems or whosoever are easily fanned into something very frightening. A moral tale for any, but particularly our own, times. Michaelmas Re-Creation of Tudor Life - Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 September 11-5pm
The last Tudor Re-Creation of 2010. Once again we return to the 
murky waters of the year 1538 a year of continuing change in religious matters as the Reformists gain the clear upper hand, to find that the great Abbey of Bury has still survived suppression and does not realise that its days are numbered. You may book in advance on-line or pay at the Gate.
The Country House Requisitioned - Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 October 11-5pm
This, the last WWII Re-Creation of 2010, re-creates the time when the 
army arrived and requisitioned the Hall to be the garrison for a Transit Camp in the Park. As we mark the 65th anniversary of the end of the War (a time when the House was still in army hands) we should not forget how the Home Front contributed (as well as suffered). Rationing was a bore but did we really suffer ? Few obese people then and children growing up then were said to be the healthiest generation ever.
Apple Weekend Days Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 October 11-5pm

(and about the same number of varieties of pear). Few Houses have so many and we show them off at this time. Don't always buy imported, tasteless apples of uniform size which seem to be all the supermarkets sell. Come and see what your forefathers used to prize.
Scaresville Nightly Friday 15 to Sunday 31 October
Voted the best Halloweeen Event in the UK for 2009, we shall seek to
improve for 2010 with some quite inventive new scares. Not for the squeamish, faint-hearted or those of a sensitive disposition though. Gateful thanks to all the women and girls whose screams create such bloodcurdling sound effects. You need to pre-book. You can also book a ghoulish 3-course supper for before you enter the Scary Route.
A Victorian Christmas Wonderland
For this we take the whole House back to the Victorian era and 
show the family of the time with the staff that looked after them. The familly will be getting activities together for Christmas, while the staff mutter as usual. So a certain amount of upstairs/downstairs tension. We shall have the Victorian Kitchen active preparing fine foods for Christmas, one of the newly introduced Christmas Trees suitably decorated. We have been fortunate enough to persuade Mr Charles Dickens to come to read his popular new work A Christmas Carol which will be accompanied by some wonderful ghostly effects. We shall show how to make suitable Victorian style Christmas Decorations and, of course, have Father Christmas in his grotto dispensing wisdom and something a little more material to children. Also a live crib with suitable biblical type animals. The day is designed for children but to be enjoyed by all. Please pre-book as spaces are very limited.
