School Visits

Kentwell has been a leader in educational School visits in East Anglia since the late 1970s. It hosts more school parties than any other Historic Venue in East Anglia. It receives some 600 to 700 school parties a year. Kentwell offers three types of school visit.

• A Visit to one of Kentwell's unique Re-Creations of Tudor Life - far and away the most popular school visit to Kentwell (go to schools.kentwell.co.uk)

• A School Tour

• A Farm Visit

Visits to a Tudor Re-Creation

This is Kentwell's principal school focus and about 600 school parties visit a Re-Creation each year. Such is the depth and range of a Re-Creation that it 'ticks' more 'boxes' in the School Curriculum in more subjects than almost any other visit anywhere. As one teacher once said "One visit to a Kentwell re-Creation is worth a year ion the class-room". Children enjoy the experience hugely too. When otherwise is learning so much fun for them ? School Tours

The usual Kentwell School Tour has a Tudor flavour and covers these areas - the Building of the Hall, the Camera Obscura, the Dairy, the Bakehouse, the Brewhouse, the Stocks, the Dovecote, the Great Kitchen, The Garderobe (privy), the Bedchamber and the Great Hall (and serving of meals). The Tour usually ends with a demonstration (sometimes after lunch) of Tudor Clothes and Weapons which some children may try. These Tours usually start at about 10.00am/10.30am and finish at about 2.30pm, allowing a one hour break for lunch and visit to the Kenwtell Shop.

School Tours usually take place in March/April/May and October/November but may be accepted at other times.

Farm Visits

These are suitable for younger children or as an optional extra after the Tour for schools taking the School Tour.

A Stockperson will explain a little about each of the animals and what the party should be looking out for but then the party will be left to conduct themselves round the Farm.

Dates for Farm Visits
Farm visits are best in the Spring, ie late February to April, when the animals are in for the winter but can take place at any time.
