Scaresville - The Haunted Village
booking is now Open for the 2010 Edition which will follow the pattern of previous years but with a range of additional scares.
An extra feature of Scaresville this year will be the possibility of meeting Matthew Hopkins, the notorious and self styled witchfinder general. He was active around here in the 1640s and the film Witchfinder General (1969) included several scenes shot at Kentwell including the ducking of a suspected witch and the hanging of Rev Lowe.
The Crucible
To give a foretaste of how frightening Hopkins was we are putting on a performance of Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible. This is based on supposed ‘witches’ in Salem in the American Colonies some 50 years after Hopkins’s time. The play gives an idea of the hysteria (and terror) that witch hunts generate in those years.
Come to The Crucible to be shocked, tickled up and prepared for later enjoying the scares of Scaresville.
