When everything's fresh and new
Snowdrop Days Opening
Kentwell's Gardens & Farm (but not the House) are open for the Snowdrops daily for half term 2012 (11 - 19 February) and on some Saturdays and all Sundays until mid March. Each day from 11 - 4pm.
The Snowdrops provide a lovely walk through the woods. Before the snows over the first weekend in February the snowdrops were just beginning to show. The snow should clear by opening and they should be a picture for the following few weeks.
The Gardens Otherwise
Early Spring is one of the best times to see the Kentwell Gardens. Everywhere is lovely and clean then and as well as the Snowdrops the ancient espalier fruit trees in the Walled Garden show off their gnarled limbs - a lovely sight - to best effect before later in the year the limbs become buried in foliage.
On the Farm
If the weather is harsh we bring in some of the animals (heavy and riding Horses and the long-coated Poitou Donkeys particularly) for shelter and by the end of February we begin to bring in the ewes for lambing later in the month. We have piglets too in the sties. It sometimes happen that a few lambs are born prematurely and these may be on show.
We expect Lambing to start in mid March 2012.
Visitors may join the afternoon feed round which usually starts at about 3.00pm.
